WHY IS THE MOOSE THE MOOSE?

“DESPITE ITS ENORMOUS SIZE AND STENGTH, THE HUMBLE MOOSE IS NOT A PREDATOR.  IT LIVES PEACEFULLY WITH ALL ANIMALS AROUND, UNLESS ITS YOUNG OR ELDERLY HERD MATES ARE THREATENED – THEN THE MOOSE BECOMES A FIERCE PROTECTOR.”

What a more fitting symbol for an organization dedicated to helping the children and senior members not only of its organization (herd-mates), but in the community itself.

MOOSEHEART – THE CHILD CITY

Mooseheart, also known as the Child City, is a community just outside of Chicago, in the Fox River Valley.  Started in 1913, this community for young people was dedicated to providing a home, an education, spiritual guidance, sports, and many other avenues of learning, for member’s families in need.  In 1994, Mooseheart opened its doors to all qualifying children in need.   In addition to the academic programs offered, each and every student studies a vocation, such as computer education or electronics. Mooseheart is funded entirely by donations and through the efforts of all the Lodges and Chapters in the Moose family.

MOOSEHAVEN – THE CITY OF CONTENTMENT

Moosehaven, the Mooseheart for our senior members, is located in Orange Park, Florida, 15 miles south of Jackson.  Moosehaven, also known as the ‘City of Contentment’ opened its doors on November 1st, 1922, with 22 residents.  Each of the buildings in which Moosehaven people reside is a self-contained home with its own sleeping and living rooms, kitchen, and dining room. The $16 million Life Care Center provides space for 170 beds and has its own therapy department, x-ray, laboratory, and pharmacy.
